December 7th Show

We are so close to Christmas.....what's there to do around Houston?  Plenty--you just have to plan it right!  We talked with Mary of Family Fun Houston.  She gave us all the 4-1-1 on all of the festivals and fun events so your family and friends can have some fun when they come visit you.  We also talked with Dirk of the Houston Museum of Natural Science about the new exhibit opening this Friday, December 12th, The Birth of Christianity. This is a way to make the Bible history come alive with a totally different experience.  Plan to take your family there; it is a great ministry tool.  Also, consider volunteering at the Houston Museum of Natural Science.  They always need volunteers to help in the exhibits; training is provided.

Have you ever had this crazy dream, and you know God put it there for a reason? Everyone around you questions the outcome, but you know God is in it.  That's what our guests Alan Litvak and Davey Hamilton tonight say happened to them.  Kingdom Racing was born out of a Houston businessman George Del Campo's dream to put the gospel on the Indy speedway.  In three short years, they have managed to acquire a major sponsor,  Davey Hamilton as their driver, and finish 14th in the Indianapolis 500.  They are the first faith based race team to compete in the Indianapolis 500.  Davey Hamilton says God took a hold of his life at an early age but no greater faith was tested than when he crashed at the Texas Motorspeedway in 2001. Look for them to compete again in the 2009 Indianapolis 500 as well as host a prayer breakfast there the day of the event.  For more information about Kingdom Racing, go to www.kingdomracing.net

It's a book that many Christians are talking about.  We'll talk to the author of the book, The Shack by William P. Young.  Some say this book changed their outlook on life; others say it opened their eyes to understanding the Trinity.  The Shack  has been on the New York Times best seller list for over three months.  Although the book is fiction, many see it as a tool that explains what true forgiveness and love really looks like.  Some evangelists are cautioning their parishoners, claiming this book has about a dozen heresies in it.

There are two words no woman wants to hear...Breast Cancer.  We talked to two people whose lives have been touched by this illness.   First, we visited with Chris Rubio from KSBJ's Saturday afternoon show.  Chris talked about his wife Sandy and the struggles she faced in the process of being diagnosed three times.  We also talked to Sandy's daughter, Monica about how her mom's faith inspired her.  Then, we spoke with Eveline, a breast cancer survivor, and she told her story about how two people came and talked to her on the same day to tell her she was healed.  If you need more information about breast cancer, go to www.komen.org or www.mdanderson.org

Do you struggle with fear and depression? Mental illness, no matter what the extent, can be paralyzing. We met Kenny Vaughn, a native Texan, champion water ski-jumper, and motivational speaker.  Kenny's message helped us learn how to break through the circumstances we face. June 15th--Father's Day

It's a special day that many of us celebrate with our loved ones.  Whether you are a new dad, or a father of many; being a dad is a blessing and a challenge in our culture today.  But what if you have lost your dad recently?  What if the relationship you had with your father was lacking love or acceptance?  How can you relate to your Heavenly Father?  We talked about that with Joey K of the Midday show and with Steve Austin, Director of Pastoral Care at Lakewood Church, and we discovered that God equips us with His word and His truth to be able to love those we aren't sure how to love.  Learn how to be a father from your Heavenly Father!

Dr. Shelley Sekula Gibbs became ill over the weekend, so we had to postpone the healthcare show.  Instead, Councilman Peter Brown came on to discuss the issues that Houston is facing regarding growth. Whether you live downtown or in the suburbs, there is so much to love about Houston!  We discussed Light Rail, traffic challenges, health care, and street improvements.  We also took your calls with questions about the issues affecting Houston's future.

Summer is almost here!  Are you ready?  If you have kids getting out of school or relatives coming in town for a visit, you've got to find things to do.  What is there to do in Houston?  Plenty, if you know where to look!  We talked to Liz Jordan of the Afternoon Show about her I Love Houston Tour.  We also met Kat from the Houston Museum of Natural Science and we talked about camps they offer.  We also checked in with Kelly Chapman to see what's new with Princess Prep.  Also, we met Mary from the website Family Fun Houston, and she gave us some great ideas. 

May 18th Show

 How do you motivate kids these days?  The youth of today face so many tough things and their parents are so busy trying to keep everything in balance that many times kids are left to fend for themselves.  That's where mentoring comes in.  We met former juvenile probation officer turned mentor/motivational speaker Brian Bolden.  This Jefferson Award Winner knows how to help turn kids around by going into schools and presenting his message in a full-scale program.
